Be Proactive About Your Health & Vision

According to the CDC, diabetes is the leading cause of blindness among adults. Regular diabetic eye exams can help maintain your eye health and identify vision and overall health problems early. Even if your diabetes is controlled and you don’t have any vision problems at the moment, being proactive with your eye care is still important.

How Diabetes Affects Your Vision & Eye Health

Diabetes can cause damage to the small blood vessels in your retina, located in the back of your eye. This is known as diabetic retinopathy. The damaged blood vessels can swell and leak, leading to blurry vision or stopping blood flow.

Regular eye exams play an important role in quickly detecting eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular edema, and others. The earlier these problems are caught, the more effective treatment can be and the less likely it is for problems to worsen.

Our Technology: Detecting Changes to Your Eye Health & Vision

At Advanced Vision Care, we take your eye health seriously. This is why we’re equipped with technologies that enable us to detect areas of concern in your eyes.

The ZEISS Cirrus delivers high-speed image capture with high-definition imaging detail and a wide field of view (12mm) in one scan. This is how your optometrist will be able to see micro details of the retina and acquire more insight into a patient’s eye condition. As a result, diagnosis is more accurate, and your optometrist can spend more time with you, creating a unique treatment plan.

The iCare Tonometer is used to measure the pressure of the fluid inside the eye, also known as intraocular pressure (IOP). Your eyes need a specific amount of pressure for them to work properly. With an iCare Tonometer, optometrists test for high amounts of pressure in the eye, which can be a contributing factor in glaucoma if left untreated.

The Olleyes Virtual Reality Test is designed to automatically analyze retinal sensitivity in patients with vision problems. This test is portable, compact, and can be used while seated or standing. It also comes with a comfortable and hygienic face cushion to increase your comfort while testing is performed.

An electroretinography test measures the electrical response of light-sensitive cells, also referred to as rods and cones, in your eyes. These rods and cones form the retina.

Your optometrist may perform an ERG test to find out if you have a retinal disorder and if eye surgery is a necessary step in your treatment.

A visual evoked potential test is a noninvasive test used by optometrists to detect certain conditions that impact how your eyes and brain work together to make sense of what you see. It measures the electrical signal the visual cortex in your brain produces as a response to visual stimulation.

Some conditions that can be detected with a VEP test include multiple sclerosis and head trauma.

Fundus digital imaging uses a fundus camera to capture color images showing the condition of the inside surface of your eye. This helps optometrists pick up on any eye disorders or monitor changes over some time.

Our office uses both a Clarus fundus camera and a DRS fundus camera to monitor changes in our patient’s eye health.
